Katherine Bell - Professional Makeup Artist
Katherine Bell’s love of makeup began at the tender age of two. It was then that she began wearing makeup strictly because she was a dancer, however, as the years went on she became more and more interested in it. She loved the different colors available in the color palette but also enjoyed mixing the colors to make new, exciting ones.
“I can remember her writing, ‘I want a makeup kit,’ on her Christmas list at the age of seven. She also used to say that she wanted to be an ‘artist’ when she grew up,” says her mother Cathy. Even at the age of seven Katherine knew what she wanted to do with her life. At the age of eight, Katherine started taking art lessons after school to further her talents. Colors, strokes, imagination, and perfection in bringing a piece together were only a few things that Katherine strived for to become a successful artist.
As Katherine got older, she began to really take an interest in makeup when she discovered that all her friends wanted their makeup to look like hers. Her friends began to ask her for makeup tips, color matching, and also if she would do their makeup for homecoming dances, proms, and senior pictures.
Her junior year of high school she found Make-Up Designory (MUD), a prestigious makeup school in Burbank, CA. After researching a few other schools in the California area, she decided that MUD was the best fit for her. She and her mother went down to California to visit the school and talk with admissions about enrollment and how to be a part of their experience. “This place would be perfect for you, but you owe me four years of college first,” her mother said.
Katherine’s passion for makeup and her desire to attend MUD only intensified during the rest of her high school and college years. It was while attending Central Washington University that Katherine began amassing what some might call an “absurd” amount of makeup. “My girlfriends would make fun of me because I know all of my eye-shadows by name.” Katherine graduated from Central Washington University in 2006 with a degree in Individual Studies in Advertising and soon after enrolled in MUD.
In September 2006 Katherine began attending the Fashion Makeup Artistry Program at Make-Up Designory. This eleven-week intensive program consisted of daily lessons designed to prepare her properly for her career. The program’s courses were Beauty, Hairstyling, and Portfolio Development.
After completing the program, Katherine decided to move back to Seattle, where she now makes her home. Katherine is a working artist who has already received excellent acclaim for her work. She is still starting out but knows her talents very well and is very excited about making this career choice.
“Makeup is my passion so why not work with my passion and make it into a career that I love.” |
